How to Get Rid of Cellulite
One of the most common skin problems that affects more than 90% of women since puberty is of course, cellulite. Cellulite has been considered a skin condition for a long time, but the truth is that cellulite is basically just an aesthetic problem, especially as the bikini season is approaching and it becomes more visible. Once cellulite becomes visible, it can prove to be very hard to remove.
Causes of Cellulite
Cellulite also known as ''cottage cheese skin'' is basically a subcutaneous fatty deposit that causes that causes the skin to look uneven bumpy or dimpled. Cellulite is usually located on the thighs buttocks and abdomen and depending on the stage it is in cellulite can be more or less visible. The causes of cellulite are varied but the main reason for which very few men develop cellulite is that cellulite is directly linked to the female hormones, especially estrogen so one of the main causes of cellulite is our genetic make-up.
An unhealthy diet, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle insufficient hydration and other harmful habits such as smoking and excessive drinking seem to contribute to the problem. Ironically, liposuction which is designed to help us get rid of fat can make cellulite less visible. Pregnancy and aging also seem to worsen the problem.
Although there are no instant solutions to help us get rid of cellulite there are several methods that can reduce cellulite or at least to make it less visible. The easiest and the most effortless method of making cellulite less visible is tanning. Cellulite is always more visible on fair skin compared to a darker, beautifully bronzed skin. That's why self tanners come in handy when trying to hide cellulite but they only represent a temporary fix.
A healthy lifestyle which implies a healthy diet and getting adequate amounts of exercise is a long term approach that delivers better results. Although that fat that causes cellulite is resistant to diet, avoiding processed foods, reducing salt intake and junk food as well as adopting a low fat diet will reduce the overall orange peel look of the skin. Berries, cinnamon or green tea are useful addition to your diet when trying to get rid of cellulite. Without exercise however even the healthiest diet will not show visible results. Besides making sure that you get the recommended amount of exercise daily try including exercises such as sit-ups, jogging, swimming or Tae Bo.
Massage also seems to be beneficial for some people, especially if poor lymphatic circulation is one of the aggravating causes of cellulite. Massage can improve blood circulation, helping the lymphatic system dispose of toxins easier, softening the skin and helping the body eliminate excess water. Body wraps are highly popular nowadays as a way to reduce cellulite, however they can be quite expensive and don't deliver long lasting results.
Exfoliation is a more affordable and more effective approach. Exfoliation not only helps shed dead skin cells it also stimulates the lymphatic system. Caffeine body scrubs are commonly used to reduce cellulite because it is believed that caffeine constructs the blood vessels, making the skin appear tighter. You can easily create your own anti-cellulite body scrub by mixing olive oil and ground coffee.
Anti-cellulite creams are heavily marketed nowadays as being a surefire way to get rid of cellulite. However, without making changes in your lifestyle these creams will have minimal effects. Most anti-cellulite creams are caffeine based and they work according to the principle described above. The most radical and invasive methods of getting rid of cellulite are surgical procedures. Surgical procedures are not recommended because they pose certain health risks and they don't prevent cellulite from reappearing.
